So Ghostbusters 3 will be in production from next year according to the star of the first two films, Dan Ackroyd but with this good news for fan comes some bad news. Bill Murray won’t be staring in the film. This is a huge blow to those who have been eager for this reboot to happen as Murray is, without question, the best actor in this soon to be trilogy.
However, a new writer is on board in the shape of Men in Black III and Tropic Thunder co-writer Etan Cohen. So things are shaping up for the suffering film which has been constantly held back by production and script problems.
Ackroyd said “It’s sad. But Ghostbusters 3 can be a successful movie without Bill. My preference would be to have him involved but at this point he doesn’t seem to be coming and we have to move on. It’s time to make the third one.”
The original film came out in 1984 with the sequel out in 1989. In an interview on US TV in June, Bill Murray said, “Even the second Ghostbusters wasn’t as much fun for me as the first one. It’s hard to make a sequel. That first one was really funny. It was just so darn funny, it’s hard for me.”
I would personally rather have Murray in these films as I can’t see it being as enjoyable or as funny as the rest. What do you think? Should they make the film at all without Murray? Should they just leave it as it is? Or do you want to see what a modern Ghostbusters will look like?
