So as we now know, The Hobbit will be in 3 parts. It’s a shame they are milking it for everything but there you go, it’ll be like the Lord of the Rings trilogy all over again, which is to say long films and long endings. I’m not hating the Lord of the Rings but surely they could have left this as 2 films and have that be that. But now they will be in a position to, once all the films have had their time in the cinema, to sell the 2 trilogies together.
We also now have new names for the films which have been oddly swapped over, renamed and jiggled about! Now it’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey which arrives on Dec 14 this year as planned and The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug still hits screens on December 13, 2013. But then the freshly retitled The Hobbit: There And Back Again will be in cinemas on July 18, 2014. So plenty of Hobbit action on it’s way over the next 2 years. Whilst I don’t want it to be 3 films, I still think, thanks to Peter Jackson, these will be very good films indeed. Time will tell. Keep It Reel.
