Did you hear about the new trailer?

What new trailer? What piece of news? Who is directing that instead of this person? Who is starring in what? In the past couple of weeks, we have seen a shocking amount of news, videos and trailers being thrown at us. At times, it can be hard to digest what we see and what we read, but fear not you Reel Deelers, I’m here to throw together the best and the most interesting bits of news that have come from studios far and wide.

First of all, the recent Star Wars trailer release. The second so far, both of which are being called teasers. However in the one released this week, we see so much more: a possible story, more characters and the return of a couple of old friends. Check it out here:

Included in the Star Wars new this week was the reaction of the new trailer by none other than Matthew Mcconaughey as well as a bunch of images, all of which can be seen below. The reaction video perfectly depicts how utterly crazy fans are going for this new footage and you really can’t blame them. It’s been a long time since the prequel trilogy dumped all over the beautiful original trilogy and now we have a look at something that could redeem the entire franchise. I believe in J.J. Abrams.

And with Star Wars, comes a bunch of a crazy fan theories which I’ve just read on the Guardian. I really like these, of course they should be taken with a pinch of salt, if that. Remember, don’t believe everything you read.

What else do we have? Hmmmmmm well there’s the much better second trailer of Terminator: Genisys. I liked the first one but this fresh footage is a step up. You see more of the story and more of the action, but it’s not too much that gives everything away as many trailers do. Take a look at this trailer right here:

I want to talk about comic book movies for a bit now. We have the leaked Batman vs. Superman trailer, the change in director for Wonder Woman and they onslaught of clips from the upcoming Avengers sequel, Age of Ultron. I’ll start with that one. There has been a shocking amount of Avengers clips released and it’s just way too much at once. First of all the mystery around the film is starting to die, it feels like you could almost piece it together with the clips and trailers they have released so far. Then, when you consider the fact that the film is out in less than a week in the UK (suck on THAT, America!) it becomes even more ludicrous.

Age of Ultron

Why are they showing us this much of the film when a lot of us will be heading to the cinema next week to watch it on a big fat screen? Stop spoiling the movie! Please do yourself a favour and wait for the film. #notlongnow.

However, on the Avengers, what I will share is this super funny advert for Gillette who have “created” Avengers inspired razors. Watch. Laugh. Repeat.

Whilst we’re on the subject of Marvel, Ant-Man has a new trailer with the frankly buff looking Paul Rudd (he looks dam good, I must say!). I would say this film falls into the category of Guardians of the Galaxy. In that no one really knows much about this part of the MCU, there is very low expectation and yet it looks pretty dam good. Let’s see if it can match that of the Guardians. Trailer:

Wonder Woman has had a change of director this week, with the departure of Michelle MacLaren and the arrival of Patty Jenkins for the Warner Bros’ pic. MacLaren left the directors chair for this DC film because of “creative differences” which is the usual vague reason any director leaves any film when there have been some serious disagreements, be they creative of otherwise. Fact is, she’s out and Jenkins is in. Jenkins helmed the 2003 film Monster, starring Charlize Theron so we are certainly in good hands when it comes to story tell, but time will tell.

Sticking with DC, the leaked trailer of Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice has been the biggest buzz of the comic book world. It’s due for release on Monday, but it looks like someone in a private screening has shot it on their phone and leaked it to the world a few days early. We see several interesting shots but I would like to say that I am against this sort of thing being leaked. Yes it’s exciting and I’m eager to see the film in it’s entirety, watching a trailer which essentially a video of a video just doesn’t do it justice (no pun intended). It’s shaky, grainy, unclear, the sound is awful and it’s not even close the quality you would when watching the trailer of such a huge film. I’m including a link to this below just so you can see exactly what I mean.

Oh but wait! What’s this? The trailer has been officially released! I guess they didn’t really have a choice, what with so many people having watched the grainy version. I’m glad they were smart enough to release the official Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice trailer a little earlier than promised. This was not a publicity stunt AT ALL! Check out folks:

Quentin Taratino has released a “trailer” for his highly anticipated new film, The Hateful Eight. I say “trailer” in this way because that’s just what it isn’t. It’s a teaser of what might the opening credits, why would you show us this when what we want is some footage from the film?! I love his films, the violence, the characters, the dialogue, the soundtracks. And I’m sure this will live up to his usual brand of blood, gore and killing lots of people, but this is a strange this to share. Check it out here:

Blade Runner 2 announced a new cast member this week. I feel like this is one of those pieces of news that went mostly under the radar. Ryan Gosling is coming on board along with Harrison Ford. Well, apparently he’s still in talks, although it depends where you read you film news. I feel like it’s safe to assume he will be starring in the sequel. But watch this space and his face:

Ryan Gosling

Mad Max: Fury Road has a new trailer. What they have called the Legacy trailer, it’s a combination of the classic Mel Gibson films and the shiny new Tom Hardy film. It’s a really good idea to get older fans on board as well as catering to possible new ones. Have a look here:

Yet another huge film on the way this year is Jurassic World. We’ve seen a teaser trailer and then a full blown trailer was released, plus a few images to boot. They have even gone to the trouble of making a couple of viral videos about the company behind the fictional theme park plus their company websites. It’s fantastic to see. Now this new image below, plus a couple more coming this weekend, is in anticipation of the new (and I hope final) trailer for the dino flick. Very excited for this film, I LOVE DINOSAURS!

Well, I think that about wraps up the really big bits of news in the past couple of weeks. See? There’s a lot going on this year. The amount of huge blockbuster films coming out this year and next feels mind boggling and even over-whelming, so I hope this has all hope scale it down a bit. I know it’s a lot to take in but just think how much fun the next couple of years are going to be. Thanks for reading.

Keep. It. Reel.

    • It’s so amazing right? I love the effort they’ve put in. It’s as amazing as the one they did for the Blair Witch Project where there were a bunch of made up stories about the which and about the community. Incredible! I’ve not to be honest, I’ve seen bits, I should have a look into it. Any particular highlights?

      • Mainly hype for Christmas. I love star wars but most of it is over my head as I’ve only watched the films. Some of the things they’re coming out with you’d only understand if you read wookiepedia. Be careful though, once on that website you may never leave.
