Justice League Trailer and Posters

Well, it’s about damn time, Snyder! This week we were annoyingly shown a few 20 second-long teaser trailers which pretty much showed nothing and pissed this film fan off! Now Zack Snyder, DC and Warner Bros. are showing us something with a little bit more depth. We have a Justice League trailer.

From the 2 and half minutes of CGI fuckery, we’re shown almost all of the League with Superman being the notably missing one because he’s “dead”. The team band together a couple of times throughout the trailer which shows that they can work together to bring down an enemy who is already here. Bruce Wayne is trecking somewhere to begin with before we see him and Diana Prince converse regarding the others meaning those he has found to form this team of superheroes. Aquaman, Cyborg then The Flash all appear in their respective introductory sections and, before we see them altogether, we’re given a brief glimpse at a swinging almost flying Batman. The action shown is a lot of fun whilst being given to us very sparingly as to not show much of the story. “What are your superpowers again?” “I’m rich”. Nice little double act from Bruce and Barry Allen. We have our first glimpse at Billy Crudup who is playing Barry’s father Henry Allen, as well as J.K. Simmons looking like a more seasoned Commissioner Gordon.

On a personal note, I think it looks too similar to Batman vs. Superman, which isn’t exactly promising. The problems with Snyder’s previous film make for too long a list to include here but the fact that this is primarily full of CGI makes me wonder where they are going with this film. There are strong parts to this trailer including Aquaman who finally has more than one word to say, as a few bits of comedy thrown in due to complaints that DC is taking itself too seriously. My other problem is that DC is rushing it’s way through it’s films, when you compare them to Marvel well, there’s no comparison at all. Marvel have taken their time building it’s own vast universe, slowly introducing the characters it wants to develop, hardly ever putting a foot wrong. Now, DC want the same thing. What they should have done, in my humble opinion, is basically the same thing. It would have worked out a lot better. Handing the reins to the DCEU mostly to Snyder is a huge mistake considering what failures his previous two DC film were. They had their moments but they were not quite what they needed to be. I’m keeping my hopes low and my fingers crossed, come on DC. You need a decent film.

The posters look pretty dam good, the design in sleek and smooth, showing how tough this team is. However some utter morons have commented that apparently Wonder Woman looks as if she’s peeing. What the fuck is wrong with people?! Anyway, check out the gallery below which includes the logo, each individual and the team altogether. Batman looks as if he wants to wants to get out of there and carry on saving the day, calm down! You’ll get your chance!

Directed by Zack Snyder, Justice League is out towards the end of this year. It stars Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, Henry Cavill, Ray Fisher, J.K. Simmons, Amy Adams and freaking loads more! The story is set around the start of the Justic League which Bruce Wayne puts together after being inspired by the selfless acts of Superman.

Matt Reeves Confirmed to Direct The Batman

Finally! The white smoke! Matt Reeves has signed on to direct The Batman which will star Ben Affleck as the Dark Knight. After seemingly turning down the job due to a negotiation breakdown, Reeves is now taking over from Affleck, who recently stepped away from directing duties. He sighted that he wouldn’t be able to both direct and star in a Batman film whilst doing the movie the justice (no pun intended) it deserves.

Reeves says, “I have loved the Batman story since I was a child. He is such an iconic and compelling character, and one that resonates with me deeply. I am incredibly honoured and excited to be working with Warner Bros. to bring an epic and emotional new take on the Caped Crusader to the big screen.”

Ever since Affleck said he’d like to direct and star in a solo Batman movie, the pressure has been on. It’s been painfully unfair on him, the undo demand he appeared to be under from merely mentioning it was shocking. The consistent speculation in the media regarding when it’ll happen, plus always being asked about it despite the fact that he was working on another project at the time, Live by Night.

Affleck released this statement in January, “There are certain characters who hold a special place in the hearts of millions. Performing this role demands focus, passion and the very best performance I can give. It has become clear that I cannot do both jobs to the level they require. Together with the studio, I have decided to find a partner in a director who will collaborate with me on this massive film. I am still in this, and we are making it, but we are currently looking for a director. I remain extremely committed to this project, and look forward to bringing this to life for fans around the world.”

Affleck, Reeves and the studio can now focus on production of the movie which feels like it’s been a long time coming. Rumour has it that Chris Terrio has written a script which both Affleck and the studio is happy with. At the moment there is no set release date for The Batman.

London Film Comic Con 2016

London Film Comic Con took place this weekend and it was full of cosplayers, a few photos shoots, plenty of celebrities who you can have your photo taken with (for a price), cars from films and lots and lots of geeky stuff to buy. Sounds like heaven doesn’t it? Well, unfortunately it wasn’t.

I went full of anticipation, only to feel a little bit let down, perhaps I should have done my research. I suppose it was never going to be as good or as big as SDCC but it just feels like you go inside to empty your wallet and that’s mostly it. This is me very much nitpicking but there seems to be a very empty atmosphere when you walk around certain areas of Olympia London. Inside there were stalls selling comics, artwork, DVDs, replicas and so on but there are huge wide open spaces where you could fit more or have somewhere to sit rather than the floor. I don’t know why this bothers me but it made it feel quite sad in places.

Now this isn’t to say it was all bad. There were plenty of opportunities where you can take your photo for free. For example with any of the cosplayers and a few of the cars, plus there was a really fantastic Suicide Squad section which I really loved! But being told off for taking a photo of one of the many famous faces around is a joke! Yes they need to make money, no we don’t all want to be ripped off for the “privilege” of being in the photo with them.

What you can buy inside is truly amazing, and surprisingly not a rip off! Plenty of offers and cheap decent items to fill your nerdy desires. The artwork was fantastic, a really eclectic range when it came to framed and printed art, lots of incredible replicas, pieces being auctioned, comics being sold, collectors items including pin badges, buttons Pop figures and such for sale. I even saw Stromtrooper armour for sale. It’s an amazing range to see, but that is mostly what it is. Stalls to buy things from.

The best part of going? Seeing my friend Charlie and meeting her friend Hollie. Both awesome, both geeks. So I suggest, if you ever go to something like, go with people who are similar to you, those who might enjoy it, those who are geeky enough for you to get your geek on.

My haul from the day, not bad!

SDCC 2016: A Roundup Of Trailers and Posters

The Holy Grail of nerdy / geeky fandom took place over the weekend. SDCC, as ever, delivered a plethora of trailers and posters from up and coming films that we’re all eagerly awaiting. Amongst them, highlights include the Kong: Skull Island trailer, The Lego Batman trailer and a surprise addition from the Justice League. With a few out this year and the rest out next year, we’ll be spoilt for choice when we head to the cinema (and watch our TVs) for quite some time.

SDCC

One day I hope to go myself and enter the legendary Hall H but for now this will do.Take a look at the latest trailers from some great looking movies (and the pointless sequel to Blair Witch) and see which is your favourite.

The Justice League trailer came out of nowhere and blew a lot of people away. Its introduction of new characters seemed to work well, plus an added dash of humour is something that’s needed in a film like this. Maybe this will right the wrongs of Batman v Superman.

From one Flash to another. The Flash Season 3 trailer was released as well. Basically DC have put out a lot! We’ll see what’s in store for The Flash this time around, but so far, the TV show has been very good. We’ll see who plays the character better though, Grant Gustin or Ezra Miller.

Wonder Woman poster

The Wonder Woman trailer looks like we will finally get a strong female-led superhero movie. It’s been attempted before but unfortunately they have fallen short. Wonder Woman was one of Batman v Superman’s saving graces, she was powerful, interesting, badass and likeable. It looks like the film will live up to its expectations.

One too many trailers for Suicide Squad now. It’s out on 5th August, less than two weeks away. We did not need this trailer, once again far too many trailers and clips have been released for a film. Stick them altogether and you’ll have most of the film. Anyway, I’m still looking forward to this film, even if we have seen more than we should have.

Blair Witch sequel. Just fuck off.

King Arthuer

King Arthur by Guy Ritchie looks like blokey, gritty, dirty movie.  So, pretty typical Ritchie, which is never a bad thing. Charlie Hunnam, of Sons of Anarchy fame, takes the lead as King Arthur along with a couple of Game of Thrones actors. Due out next year.

Kong

Kong: Skull Island looks considerably better than I would have expected, it’s what the King deserves. The ever-awesome Tom Hiddleston, along with Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson and John Goodman, pretty impossible to be shit with that cast. A truly stunning looking King Kong which is leading up to Godzilla vs. Kong!

Lego Batman

Back in black and yellow, he’s here and with a sidekick son who he adopted. Yeah. The Lego Batman movie was announced a while ago and they very quickly released two very short trailers. We finally have a full-length trailer to salivate over. It’s wonderfully funny and Will Arnett is a perfect Batman. 2017 can’t come quickly enough.

From The Lego Batman to pre-Dark Knight. Gotham’s season 3 trailer has been released and it’s a long one. Plus it features the new DC logo, I prefer the old one but oh well. The show has received mixed reviews but the latest trailer is looking great!

The Walking Dead season 6 ended on the biggest cliff-hanger in the shows history. Negan brought the gang together in a cruel and twisted way. They are currently on their knees, awaiting their fate. When we will find out who caught the end of Lucille is anyone’s guess (we know what the show’s like, leaving us hanging as they did when Glen fell into that crowd of walkers, cruel!) But it’s not too long to wait, with the seventh season the premiere in October.

And the Harry Potter fandom continues. The latest trailer for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them was shown to the Comic Con audience this weekend. It’s what you’d expect and more from the creators of one of the world’s biggest movie franchises. Eddie Redmayne is the playing lead character Newt Scamander who, in the Harry Potter universe, wrote the book from the book. Confused? Good.

Whilst I’m not sure about his accent, I’m certain that Benedict Cumberbatch will bring it as he always does. He stars as Doctor Stranger, in the second trailer for Marvel’s next film part of their MCU. It’s looking like a Nolan-esque movie with elements of Inceptions and Batman Begins seen in this and the first trailer. Check it out here.

Defenders

The Defenders consists of Dare Devil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage. It’s like an Avengers TV show but with a much better female character. And darker. It’s interesting how Marvel have gone dark for their TV shows but kept their movies relatively light. Either way, it’s working. Luke Cage is brilliant in Jessica Jones and rightly so getting his own show. Iron Fist says it all in the name. Yet another Game of Thrones actor moving from one franchise to another. I’m really looking forward to this, it’s yet another smart move by Marvel to develop these characters and bring them together on the small screen instead of more movies. We’ll see how these go.

The long-awaited X-Men live action TV series is finally coming and it looks alright. Not great but we’ll see. Always have faith in Marvel. Starring Aubrey Plaza and Dan Stevens, yet another TV show from Marvel, which is due out next year.

Black PantherCaptain MarvelGuardiansThor

spiderman

Marvel have launched several posters and one image of upcoming MCU movies we can expect to see in the future. One of the biggest pieces of news comes in the form of Captain Marvel. Brie Larson from Room has been announced to be taking that role. She will feature in Infinity Wars and have her own solo movie after that. Footage was shown from Thor: Ragnarok but hasn’t been released any where else just yet. The above image shows concept art of Spider-Man going toe to toe with The Vulture, confirmation that he will be in the new Spider-Man film. With these plus Black Panther, Guardians 2 and several other projects in the pipeline, it looks like the studio isn’t slowing down.

I’ll leave you with their newest intro for Marvel Studios.

The Great British Geek Off

For those of you who are like me and into the nerdy and geeky wonders of life but also enjoy a spot of baking now and then, you would have enjoyed this year’s Great British Bake Off. It had a wide array of contestants and brilliant bakes. Nadia’s soda cheesecake was one of my favourites and Paul’s (not the judge of course!) lion bread concoction was incredible! It got me thinking how I could combine my love of baking and all things geeky. I’ve found some amazing things to go with my Death Star cookie jar (yes I have one and it’s magnificent) all of which is being added to my Christmas wish list.

Now that we are approaching the festive season with Thanksgiving and Christmas not far off, I wanted to come up with some fun items that the nerd / geek in you will really want to use to create some amazing bakes. So to keep that in mind, here are some things you can use to create the ultimate geek bake off.

What to wear

You are going to want to cover up your threads so why not try on this lovely Tardis from Doctor Who apron on for size? You will look ever so stylish in this blue apron, whilst keeping up the appearance of being a nerd, good choice I say! Especially if you love Doctor Who. Who doesn’t?

http://www.forbiddenplanet.co.uk/doctor-who-tardis-apron

What to bake on

Yes you have your kitchen surface but it sometimes helps to have a chopping board, depending on what you are baking. If you need to make cookies or a cinnamon roll of some kind, you’ll want that extra layer of protection. Just use the Hulk chopping board and all is well. Just do what the Hulk does, which is to say SMASH!

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Marvel-Breakfast-Chopping-Board-Design/dp/B00EE726D4

What to roll with

You will only occasionally need a rolling pin, unless you have an unhealthy (actually very awesome) obsession with cookies, whilst baking. So, with that in mind, why not get a fun one? I only have dull plain ones, which I’m not a fan of. However, I may invest in something like this. A Harry Potter embossed rolling pin. This will certainly add some magic to your biscuits!

https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/234523157/harry-potter-rolling-pin-embossing

What to cut with

If rolling patterns isn’t your thing, then maybe try out some funky cookie cutters. Yet another thing I would like to invest in are these 3D dinosaur cookie cutters. Never been a fan of 3D when it comes to the cinema, but I’m loving these. They are certain to give your cookies some bite!

What to bake in

This is for all you cake bakers out there, which I’m sure includes a lot of you. If you want to do something more special than your standard round cake, how about a Darth Vader head shaped cake? Sound good? Well lucky you, there’s a Darth Vader head cake mould just waiting to be used! Come over to the Dark Side and bake with Darth. He’s famously a big icing fan!

Darth Vader cake tin

What to store it in

Unless you’re very hungry, or you have lots of people to hand out these tasty treats to, you’ll need something to store your cookies in. (Yeah I looked for a cool cake tin, but alas there are none as cool as the rest of this list!) I have a Death Star cookie jar at home, which I absolutely love! But, why not keep this in the darkest of places? Why not keep them cool? Why not keep them in the Dark Knight? This wonderful Batman cookie jar is ideal for biscuits of all sizes. At least he’ll have an excuse for not defending Gotham, he’s just too full of your delicious cookies!

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Westland-Giftware-25515-Batman-Cookie/dp/B008LY0U3E

So there you have it, all you need to enjoy yourself baking at home and to maybe even start your own novelty baking shop! Get out there my fellow nerds and geeks and get baking!

Some like it hot!

It’s hot out there in the UK people, hope you’re enjoying the heat. I certainly am, and no, it’s not “too hot”. The rather clever folks at The Poke have shared a few fantastic altered images, updated with the current state of the nations weather. Some dam good ones here but maybe Bake (Babe) is a bit too far. Still funny though. Enjoy the sun, get brown, eat ice cream, watch Wimbledon and Keep It Reel.

Birdman, review

When you type in Michael Keaton’s name into IMDB, the film he’s credited for first, amongst all of the fortunate souls who have similar names, is Batman from 1989. It’s apparently the best film people know him for and it’s been difficult for him to come out of the Bruce Wayne shadow. That’s more than 25 years, being known for one role in two movies and not too much ever since then. He’s had small roles and big ones including Beetlejuice, his part in the not-that-bad reboot of Robocop as well as voicing a couple of Pixar characters however his role as Batman is the one he’s always known for. Perhaps this film will change that.

In Birdman, Keaton plays Riggan, an actor whose most famous and revered role is a fictional superhero known as Birdman, a character who is also Riggan’s alter ego throughout the film, speaking in a very Christian Bale-esque Batman voice. He is trying to recapture the fame he once had by directing and starring in a Broadway play where he has to battle with his ego as well as those of his co-stars and his recovering drug addict daughter who also happens to be his assistant. Keaton’s character is suffering from a loss of identity, not knowing where his place is in the world and everyone has moved onto digital media with a particular reference to Twitter. It’s something that he refuses to accept and it is within his stubborn ways that he has created a very old fashioned bubble in which he likes to live in. He clings onto his Birdman character as if this is the only thing that’s ever mattered to him. But who can blame him? During a couple of scenes, the residents of New York city become very excited when they see him, yelling out references of this old character to him in the street. He also has problems with alcohol, a chaotic relationship with his daughter, he’s not respected by other actors and with all of this going on he has a show to put on.

The film is also styled in an interesting way, there is a constant drumming soundtrack throughout the movie which gives the feeling that we are being lead up to something momentous. It’s shot as if it is in one long take which is an ambitious filming technique for the director and it is something that works well with this kind of storytelling. The director, Alejandro Gonzalz Inarritu, has plenty of experience dealing with well-rounded characters and complex story lines, looking at his work with 21 Grams and Babel, both of which deal with the complex human condition in several actors at any one time.

There are times when you wonder if Keaton has gone through these problems within his real life and battled with fellow actors for popularity during his career. The similarity between Batman and Birdman is undeniable, both superheroes, both admired. It’s within this that you realise that no other actor could play this role as well as Keaton, he is able to bring the personal experience of his own resume and of his own life. There are scenes in which he is screaming or being screamed at, scenes which make you wonder if art is imitating Keaton’s life. Along with his supporting cast especially Emma Stone and Ed Norton plus a director who is perfect for the job, this makes Birdman a real hero.

How The Batman v Superman Teaser Should Have Ended

For those of you who actually got to see the teaser footage of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice before it was taken down, I’m sure you would have been just as excited as me. It was brief being a teaser, also very grainy seeing how it wasn’t supposed to be online (well done to the person who somehow filmed that!) and it didn’t tell us much. However whilst it looked very intriguing, I for one am still yet to be convinced that Zack Snyder is the right man for the job. There was something lacking in Man of Steel, it was good but not great. Anyway, the release date of this film has been changed a few times and it currently sits on the timeline at 25th March 2016, so there’s still a lot of waiting for this one.

How The Batman v Superman Teaser Should Have Ended

Not being ones to shy away from the controversial (we were never supposed to see this footage so soon!), the guys at How It Should Have Ended have given us their satirical insight into how they feel the teaser footage should have really ended. I love their work, and this is yet another great creation from them. Check out their personalised version of the title at the end.
