The End Game Is Coming

The wait is almost over with the release of the first trailer from the fourth Avengers film. It’s title? Avengers: End Game. This has been the rumoured title for a while with Marvel and the Russo Brothers keeping it a secret until now. Check out the trailer below:

It’s an astonishing first look which doesn’t reveal too much besides Ant-Man who, last time we saw him, was trapped in the quantum realm. How he gets out is anyone’s guess but I suppose it’s not that much of a spoiler because you can’t just leave him in there for the duration of the film can you? This is an interesting and better way to release a trailer. Last year with the first one for Infinity War we got a countdown with those odd green numbers from the Russos, this time it’s been rumour after rumour and then dropped. Apparently it was held back for various reasons, causing some ludicrous outrage amongst fans across the globe (some people were total dicks on Twitter!) Anyway, also included is a new poster which is the Infinity War one after the snap. Oh…SNAP!

What we do see in the trailer includes the original Avengers, as well as Nebula and a brief shot of Thanos, his devastated gauntlet and his armour walking around an unnamed planet although it’s safe to assume he’s where we left him at the end of Infinity War. Tony is in a worse situation than the rest as he drifts through space having run out of food and water and coming dangerously close to finishing whatever oxygen he has left. Clint aka Hawkeye aka Ronin makes a return with a new haircut (it looks fucking cool) and a new weapon. As we see Thor and Bruce coming to terms with what has happened, Black Widow and Captain America formulate a plan to make things right. Take a look below for a few shots from the trailer.

Directed by the Russo Brothers and starring Robert Downey Jr, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Karen Gillan, Brie Larson, Paul Rudd, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo, Josh Brolin and a shitload of others Avengers: End Game is out in April. What are your thoughts on the name and the trailer? Like? Hate? Don’t give a shit?

HOLY FUCK I’M EXCITED!!

Feasting From Films. Chef: Garlic Pasta

Recently my lady friend (hello Lizzie) had the idea of combining my love of food and film into regular blog posts. Essentially the concept is to cook/bake dishes seen in movies, see how easy they are to make and how they taste. Lucky for me, I enjoy cooking however Lizzie is much better at it than I am so she took the reins on what is hopefully the first of many food related film blog posts.

The idea sprung to Lizzie’s mind after were watched the Jon Favreau flick, Chef who stars and directs this food lovers movie. (If you’ve not seen it, I suggest that before viewing it that you eat something extra tasty. Food envy is the worst.) Favreau stars as Carl Casper, a frustrated chef, caged by the menu he has to serve night after night as well as his unrelenting boss, Dustin Hoffman.

Once upon a time he was being hailed as one of the most exciting things in the restaurant business but is now reduced to a bog standard cook. This leads to a pretty bad review from a well-known food critic and the meltdown to end all meltdowns. Unfortunately for Casper, this is the digital age where everyday people can photograph and film at the push of a button which leads to him becoming a viral star. He quits and soon after he’s convinced to start a food truck which quickly gains popularity.

Before all of this, the pre-meltdown portion of the film if you will, he cooks garlic pasta (full name is Pasta Aglio e Olio) for Scarlett Johansson who loves it! Who wouldn’t? It looks so good that I’m pretty sure I could smell it. Maybe it was the garlic bread I was eating at the time but I doubt that. Anyway, here’s the ingredients and method for the garlic pasta.

For the original recipe, take a look here.

Ingredients (Serves 2 people)

  • Large handful of spaghetti
  • 8 cloves of garlic, sliced thinly
  • 150 ml extra virgin oil
  • 1 tablespoon of chili flakes
  • 60g Parmesan, grated
  • Handful of diced parsley
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • Salt and pepper to season

Method

  1. Find the Chef soundtrack and press play
  2. Boil some water in a saucepan, add salt and then place the spaghetti in until cooked, usually around 10 minutes or so
  3. Whilst this is cooking, heat up the oil in a separate frying pan on a gentle heat and then add in the garlic, ensuring that you stir it every minute so that it doesn’t burn
  4. Once the garlic is golden brown, remove from the heat, drain the spaghetti and leave on the side until you’re ready to mix
  5. Add the chili flakes to the garlic and oil, then stir, making sure it is well mixed
  6. Turn the volume up for God’s sake! I can’t hear the sexy salsa sounds of Chef over all that frying and mixing!
  7. Add the spaghetti in and toss/stir until it is completely coated in garlic/chili oil (I’m drooling, I want it again!)
  8. Add in the parsley and parmesan and again stir well
  9. Squeeze in the lemon juice, ensuring it is drizzled all over the spaghetti
  10. Season with salt and pepper to your own taste
  11. ENJOY!

It’s a surprisingly simple recipe which (minus chopping the garlic thinly) didn’t take that long. It’s perfect and filling by itself, however I’d recommend that you serve it with a salad if anything. I added in extra parmesan as I was eating, because of the heat and this also improved the taste overall.

We used more than a tablespoon of chili flakes and it was a bit too much, however you can probably take the heat better than me. Here are a few images during the cooking  process. Excuse the quality, my camera thinks it’s from the 90s.

Keep an eye out on my blog for monthly movie recipes from all sorts of films and if you have any ideas you’d like me to try out, let me know.

Spider-Man: Homecoming posters

It’s not long until our favourite wall crawler is back up on the big screen in his own solo movie. Spider-Man: Homecoming is out in just a few months and we’ve not seen much of him lately besides a trailer about 3 months ago and Tom Holland waxing lyrical on the set of Avengers: Infinity War. Well just as a reminder that we’ve got an MCU filled year ahead of us with this as well as images and posters being released for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Thor: Ragnarok, we now also have a couple if brand spanking new posters for Spider-Man. One is a fairly typical Spider-Man pose, sticking to the side of a building and the other is not. Lying down, thinking about whatever this iteration of Peter Parker thinks about, chances are you would have noticed the Avengers tower in both posters, just in case you didn’t know that he is now an Avenger this is set in New York. He’s wearing what is probably an Oscorp jacket in one and hanging off the big A in the other one.

In July we’ll see the story of Spider-Man: Homecoming tell us about Peter dealing with school, girls, being Spider-Man and balancing all of that out. Whilst dealing with all of that he’ll be taking on Michael Keaton’s Vulture. It certainly sounds like we’ve seen it before however with Tom Holland playing this version, someone who looks and sounds like a teen (he’s actually turning 21 this year), his characterisation of the web slinger and without telling his back story again, it will hopefully be very different. Directed by Jon Watts and also starring Marisa Tomei as Aunt May and Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man for the seventh time, this film is the 15th in the MCU.

Spider-Man: Homecoming Trailer

Well, it’s finally here. After that 17 second teaser yesterday, 14 years of being with Sony and a small amount of screen time recently, we’ve now got a full length trailer for Spider-Man: Homecoming. He’s home. He’s back. Marvel has control of one of its most popular and most famous characters of all time! We had an incredible glimpse as to what Marvel can do with him in Captain America: Civil War (to the utter joy and delight of fans and critics alike) and now in just a few short months we will see him in his first ever solo film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Along with the teaser and the trailer, a fresh new image was released which looks very reminiscent of what is thought to be one of the best superhero movies of all time, Spiderman 2. The photo shows Tom Holland as the wall crawler holding his mask as a train whizzes by in the background. This could be a call back to the superbly choreographed fight scene on a train, with Spiderman and Doctor Octopus.

In the trailer we see Holland effortlessly play the painfully awkward teen who only has one friend, trying to get through high school, whilst also wanting to save the world as Mr. Stark tries to protect him by treating him like a kid. All Peter wants to do is prove himself and defeat The Vulture (Michael Keaton) whilst being told to “forget the flying monster guy, there are people who handle this sort of thing”. Of course Peter wants to be one of these people, he wants to be a full time Avenger. Who can blame him? He fits right in and did a good job in Civil War. The trailer ends with a shot of Spider-Man and Iron Man together, possibly on their way to fight some crime. An international trailer has also been released with a little bit more of both Holland and Keaton, but not that much. I’ve included that below as well, you lucky spider-loving freaks!

So what do you think? Have we had too much Spider-Man? Are you happy he’s back in the MCU? Is he just getting started?

Happy Hogan returning to the MCU in Spider-Man: Homecoming

The interactions between Iron Man and Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War were utterly superb. Combining these two tech geniuses, their conflicting personalities and the right amount of heart and humour really showed what the MCU is about when it comes to character relationships. The thought of these two appearing together again in next year’s Spider-Man: Homecoming is such an exciting prospect. And now there’s even more amazing news with the fact that Jon Favreau’s Happy Hogan will also be appearing in the film.

It’s a welcome addition to the cast, Happy and Tony have always had a comedic and sweet bond which is hard to have on screen. Happy hasn’t been seen since Iron Man 3 as he stayed out of Civil War, possibly because he took Pepper’s side in the break up!

Spider-Man: Homecoming also stars Robert Downey Jr, Tom Holland, Logan Marshall-Green, Marisa Tomei and Michael Keaton. It’s directed by Jon Watts and set for release on July 7 2017 in the UK.

News from Comic Con: The superheroes are still coming.

Comic Con news just in: new Marvel Comic films are on the way, including second installments of Captain America and Thor, both of which have foregone the usual numbers and opted for full titles. Captain America: The Winter Soldier will be with us on 4th April 2014, whilst Thor: The Dark World will be out on 8th November 2013. The rest include Ironman 3 which is out on 26th April 2013, Guardians of the Galaxy will be released on 1st August 2014 and Ant-Man does not currently have an official date as of yet.

So lots on the way for comic book fans, we’ll see if they can live up to the hype, especially Ant-Man which has had some footage shown at Comic Con. It starts with two agents at the end of a long white corridor, from which we pull back behind an air vent to reveal Ant-Man. Tiny, red and black suit, a mask. Simple. He jumps through the vent, runs along t he corridor and zaps into a normal size. The agents draw their guns. Ant-Man changes back into his small self and leaps into the mouth of one of the agents and knocks him out. He then grabs the tie of the other, flips him through the window and changes back to normal size. He enters an elevator and shrinks back down again.

We’ll see what this holds and how the others do against the magnitude of comic book films that are also in production right now, which includes two more Garfield Spidermans, Man of Steel with Christopher Nolan’s creative input as producer and more from The Avengers. It’s going to be a fun geek-filled few years.

New Avengers artwork and DVD case.

The Avengers are Assembling, again. Now I I hope you aren’t quite sick of the super hero lovefest I’ve been having here on Neel’s Reel Deel because here is some great new artwork and a stunning collectors edition case for the release of Marvel’s The Avengers Assemble. Each piece of artwork is for the discs included for the solo films of all the characters plus the bonus “Phase One Archives”. So in this mammoth boxset, you will get Iron man, Iron Man 2, The Incredible Hulk, Captain America, The Avengers Assemble as well as the bonus disc of “Phase One Archives.” Very exciting, so much so that I wish I didn’t have any of the film so I could buy this box! Probably the most amazing looking case for any sort of DVD / Blu Ray release, just take a look, it’s beautiful. Well happy buying and watching!

Iron Man 3 – the first image

Iron Man 3 - the first image

Iron Man and Iron Man 2, I feel, have set the bar high for the next instalment. Not that this image gives us much but we can see Robert Downey Jr. in familiar territory at his workshop and it’s also a chance to get excited so soon after The Avengers for a new Marvel instalment. With this Captain America 2, Thor 2 and The Avengers 2 being announced recently, as well as Mark Ruffalo signing up for 5 more Hulk films, it looks like we can rest easy, the world will be safe for quite some time.

A super year for super heroes!

We will never forget the unfortunate and lacklustre comic book films that have come out in recent years including Green Hornet (2011), Green Lantern (2011) and the terrible Superman Returns (2006) but what some may forget is that the studios would never have made these without the aide of Spiderman and X-Men who released their first films 2000 and 2002. They were both huge hits at the box office and comic book fan united and wanted more. Who knew what they’d get some years later is the studios scraping the barrel for film. Even the reboot of Superman films was badly executed. It did to the Superman series what Batman & Robin did to the Batman collective.

But now we find ourselves in 2012, the year of three huge superhero movies, one of which is the concluding chapter in what has already been a brilliant trilogy. Another is a reboot which the fans are more excited about than the original. The final film has already become one of the greatest successes at the box office and This year sees three highly anticipated films released including The Avengers, The Amazing Spiderman and The Dark Knight Rises, with the latter arguably being the most popular release this year.

The Avengers

The Avengers has been in the making since Ironman of 2008, where Nick Fury makes an appearance after the credits and visits Tony Stark to tell him about the Avengers initiative. Since then, in The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2, Thor and Captain America, small hints and clues have been dropped using Nick Fury and the ever brilliant Agent Coulson to start the rumours of The Avengers. A film with more superheroes than you will ever see in one film, unless DC get their finger out and make The Justice League. It’s clear to see why this is a huge release for 2012.

Whilst enjoying The Avengers, please take a minute for poor Spidey  who is not one of The Avengers, despite the fact that they all come from comic super power Marvel. However don’t feel THAT bad for him, after just 5 years since Spiderman 3, he’s been given a reboot. This is no ordinary reboot however, this is one that the fans wanted, the one that gets more to the root of who Peter Parker really is and what happened to his parents. We will also see the character Gwen Stacey introduced, who is a refreshing change from Mary Jane. Andrew Garfield takes up the role of Peter Parker / Spiderman and looks as if he is more suited to this than Tobey Maguire, who I never felt fit the part in the way that he should have! I’m sure I can expect some backlash from that comment!

Now we come the The Dark Knight Rises. The legend that will end this year is the legend we’ve been waiting for 4 years to return. Four years after we saw Batman take the fall from Harvey Dents crimes, he returns. But what he returns to we will have to wait and see. From the three trailers, what we do know is that Bane is his new enemy and he’s causing havoc and devastation in Gotham. What has happened to Batman, we don’t know but chances are when it comes to both brains and brawn, The Dark Knight has finally met his match. This is the third and final Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale Batman flick that we will see. After breaking the the billion dollar barrier at the box office, The Dark Knight has set the bar incredibly high, but knowing what Nolan can do, chances are he’ll Rise above it!

Man of Steel

So a great year for some great some films, and there will be more to come. The Amazing Spiderman 2 has already been announced as as The Avengers 2 and 3. Without a doubt, this will be a super year. And for those of you worried about Superman, fret not dear friend! Take a look above, this is the first images from The Man of Steel, pencilled in for a release in 2013, with Christopher Nolan’s creative input as Executive Producer, working with Zack Snyder as Director, this should have you looking forward to another super year for superheroes.
