Jared Leto To Play Morbius

For all you budding actors out there, after his last stint in a comicbook movie I’d stay away from this one unless you fancy receiving bullets, used condoms and a rat from your co-star. That’s right, Jared Leto is starring in yet another comicbook movie after his stint as the Joker in Suicide Squad he just can’t get enough. The second movie to be about a villain of Spider-Man’s, Jared will be playing Morbius.

No one is sure what Sony is even thinking be announcing something so bizarre before finding out if Venom is any good but hey ho. That’s how they are choosing to do things. Perhaps they have that much confidence in their cast and the film itself but these villain movies seem to be a way to cash in on the best Spider-Man we have.

A quick history lesson regarding Morbius, created in 1971 by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane, he first appeared in the Amazing Spider-Man issue 101. Trying to cure himself of a blood disease, he winds up with vampire traits including fangs and a taste for blood. Perhaps if they take this route it’ll be an interesting way to go but who knows what will happen??

Jared has been attached to this project for quite some time but not until now has he committed himself to the role. He met with Daniel Espinosa who is said to be in the directors chair for this one. Written by Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama who both worked on Netflix’s Lost in Space series. There’s no release date as of yet but just like Venom, I’ll believe it when I see it.

Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse Has A Trailer

Whilst it may feel as if we have had plenty of Spider-Man at the cinema lately with three iterations of the live action character, none have been like this. Introducing Peter Parker, Gwen Stacy (aka Spider-Gwen, played by Hailee Steinfeld) and Miles Morales, the new animated movie, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse will take you into a multidimensional universe in which there are several Spider superheroes. Check out the trailer below.

Here Miles (voiced by Shameik Moore) takes centre stage with a distinctive black Spidey suit as Peter (Jake Johnson) guides him and teaches him how to be a better Spider-Man and about fighting crime in New York. As they swing around, Gwen-Spider shows up who looks as if she’s just stepped out the pages of the comicbook.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018)

The visuals within the trailer are truly stunning and it’s something that looks as if only big screen will do it justice. Layering 2D with 3D, the textures and colours look vibrant, plus using comicbook text for small parts of dialouge, this is like no animated film we’ve seen before.

With a voice cast which also includes Liev Schreiber as Kingpin, Mahershala Ali as Miles’ uncle Aaron, and Lily Tomlin as Aunt May plus producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller on board, it’ll be swinging into cinemas in December.

Marvel Cinematic Universe: Alternative Artwork

Every time a new Marvel film comes out, the marketing is once again ramped up to an almost ridiculous level. Avengers: Infinity War is no exception with more than 30 posters released so far and another week to go until it’s release, who knows how many more we will see? Frankly I’m hoping none because the quality has been pretty poor. From the ensemble cast posters, the mini team-ups and the digitally enhanced individual images, it’s not hitting the notes which the trailers have.

A lot of the time independent artwork is much better than what we see being launched by the studio. It seems that it’s mainly to do with the fact that multiple people are having their say no matter how little they know about creating something visually pleasing to the eye. Here are just a few examples which are much better than the official posters. If you’d like to see more work like this, each piece has a link to the credited artist below.

Spider-Man: Homecoming posters

It’s not long until our favourite wall crawler is back up on the big screen in his own solo movie. Spider-Man: Homecoming is out in just a few months and we’ve not seen much of him lately besides a trailer about 3 months ago and Tom Holland waxing lyrical on the set of Avengers: Infinity War. Well just as a reminder that we’ve got an MCU filled year ahead of us with this as well as images and posters being released for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Thor: Ragnarok, we now also have a couple if brand spanking new posters for Spider-Man. One is a fairly typical Spider-Man pose, sticking to the side of a building and the other is not. Lying down, thinking about whatever this iteration of Peter Parker thinks about, chances are you would have noticed the Avengers tower in both posters, just in case you didn’t know that he is now an Avenger this is set in New York. He’s wearing what is probably an Oscorp jacket in one and hanging off the big A in the other one.

In July we’ll see the story of Spider-Man: Homecoming tell us about Peter dealing with school, girls, being Spider-Man and balancing all of that out. Whilst dealing with all of that he’ll be taking on Michael Keaton’s Vulture. It certainly sounds like we’ve seen it before however with Tom Holland playing this version, someone who looks and sounds like a teen (he’s actually turning 21 this year), his characterisation of the web slinger and without telling his back story again, it will hopefully be very different. Directed by Jon Watts and also starring Marisa Tomei as Aunt May and Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man for the seventh time, this film is the 15th in the MCU.

Spider-Man: Homecoming Trailer

Well, it’s finally here. After that 17 second teaser yesterday, 14 years of being with Sony and a small amount of screen time recently, we’ve now got a full length trailer for Spider-Man: Homecoming. He’s home. He’s back. Marvel has control of one of its most popular and most famous characters of all time! We had an incredible glimpse as to what Marvel can do with him in Captain America: Civil War (to the utter joy and delight of fans and critics alike) and now in just a few short months we will see him in his first ever solo film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Along with the teaser and the trailer, a fresh new image was released which looks very reminiscent of what is thought to be one of the best superhero movies of all time, Spiderman 2. The photo shows Tom Holland as the wall crawler holding his mask as a train whizzes by in the background. This could be a call back to the superbly choreographed fight scene on a train, with Spiderman and Doctor Octopus.

In the trailer we see Holland effortlessly play the painfully awkward teen who only has one friend, trying to get through high school, whilst also wanting to save the world as Mr. Stark tries to protect him by treating him like a kid. All Peter wants to do is prove himself and defeat The Vulture (Michael Keaton) whilst being told to “forget the flying monster guy, there are people who handle this sort of thing”. Of course Peter wants to be one of these people, he wants to be a full time Avenger. Who can blame him? He fits right in and did a good job in Civil War. The trailer ends with a shot of Spider-Man and Iron Man together, possibly on their way to fight some crime. An international trailer has also been released with a little bit more of both Holland and Keaton, but not that much. I’ve included that below as well, you lucky spider-loving freaks!

So what do you think? Have we had too much Spider-Man? Are you happy he’s back in the MCU? Is he just getting started?

SDCC 2016: A Roundup Of Trailers and Posters

The Holy Grail of nerdy / geeky fandom took place over the weekend. SDCC, as ever, delivered a plethora of trailers and posters from up and coming films that we’re all eagerly awaiting. Amongst them, highlights include the Kong: Skull Island trailer, The Lego Batman trailer and a surprise addition from the Justice League. With a few out this year and the rest out next year, we’ll be spoilt for choice when we head to the cinema (and watch our TVs) for quite some time.

SDCC

One day I hope to go myself and enter the legendary Hall H but for now this will do.Take a look at the latest trailers from some great looking movies (and the pointless sequel to Blair Witch) and see which is your favourite.

The Justice League trailer came out of nowhere and blew a lot of people away. Its introduction of new characters seemed to work well, plus an added dash of humour is something that’s needed in a film like this. Maybe this will right the wrongs of Batman v Superman.

From one Flash to another. The Flash Season 3 trailer was released as well. Basically DC have put out a lot! We’ll see what’s in store for The Flash this time around, but so far, the TV show has been very good. We’ll see who plays the character better though, Grant Gustin or Ezra Miller.

Wonder Woman poster

The Wonder Woman trailer looks like we will finally get a strong female-led superhero movie. It’s been attempted before but unfortunately they have fallen short. Wonder Woman was one of Batman v Superman’s saving graces, she was powerful, interesting, badass and likeable. It looks like the film will live up to its expectations.

One too many trailers for Suicide Squad now. It’s out on 5th August, less than two weeks away. We did not need this trailer, once again far too many trailers and clips have been released for a film. Stick them altogether and you’ll have most of the film. Anyway, I’m still looking forward to this film, even if we have seen more than we should have.

Blair Witch sequel. Just fuck off.

King Arthuer

King Arthur by Guy Ritchie looks like blokey, gritty, dirty movie.  So, pretty typical Ritchie, which is never a bad thing. Charlie Hunnam, of Sons of Anarchy fame, takes the lead as King Arthur along with a couple of Game of Thrones actors. Due out next year.

Kong

Kong: Skull Island looks considerably better than I would have expected, it’s what the King deserves. The ever-awesome Tom Hiddleston, along with Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson and John Goodman, pretty impossible to be shit with that cast. A truly stunning looking King Kong which is leading up to Godzilla vs. Kong!

Lego Batman

Back in black and yellow, he’s here and with a sidekick son who he adopted. Yeah. The Lego Batman movie was announced a while ago and they very quickly released two very short trailers. We finally have a full-length trailer to salivate over. It’s wonderfully funny and Will Arnett is a perfect Batman. 2017 can’t come quickly enough.

From The Lego Batman to pre-Dark Knight. Gotham’s season 3 trailer has been released and it’s a long one. Plus it features the new DC logo, I prefer the old one but oh well. The show has received mixed reviews but the latest trailer is looking great!

The Walking Dead season 6 ended on the biggest cliff-hanger in the shows history. Negan brought the gang together in a cruel and twisted way. They are currently on their knees, awaiting their fate. When we will find out who caught the end of Lucille is anyone’s guess (we know what the show’s like, leaving us hanging as they did when Glen fell into that crowd of walkers, cruel!) But it’s not too long to wait, with the seventh season the premiere in October.

And the Harry Potter fandom continues. The latest trailer for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them was shown to the Comic Con audience this weekend. It’s what you’d expect and more from the creators of one of the world’s biggest movie franchises. Eddie Redmayne is the playing lead character Newt Scamander who, in the Harry Potter universe, wrote the book from the book. Confused? Good.

Whilst I’m not sure about his accent, I’m certain that Benedict Cumberbatch will bring it as he always does. He stars as Doctor Stranger, in the second trailer for Marvel’s next film part of their MCU. It’s looking like a Nolan-esque movie with elements of Inceptions and Batman Begins seen in this and the first trailer. Check it out here.

Defenders

The Defenders consists of Dare Devil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage. It’s like an Avengers TV show but with a much better female character. And darker. It’s interesting how Marvel have gone dark for their TV shows but kept their movies relatively light. Either way, it’s working. Luke Cage is brilliant in Jessica Jones and rightly so getting his own show. Iron Fist says it all in the name. Yet another Game of Thrones actor moving from one franchise to another. I’m really looking forward to this, it’s yet another smart move by Marvel to develop these characters and bring them together on the small screen instead of more movies. We’ll see how these go.

The long-awaited X-Men live action TV series is finally coming and it looks alright. Not great but we’ll see. Always have faith in Marvel. Starring Aubrey Plaza and Dan Stevens, yet another TV show from Marvel, which is due out next year.

Black PantherCaptain MarvelGuardiansThor

spiderman

Marvel have launched several posters and one image of upcoming MCU movies we can expect to see in the future. One of the biggest pieces of news comes in the form of Captain Marvel. Brie Larson from Room has been announced to be taking that role. She will feature in Infinity Wars and have her own solo movie after that. Footage was shown from Thor: Ragnarok but hasn’t been released any where else just yet. The above image shows concept art of Spider-Man going toe to toe with The Vulture, confirmation that he will be in the new Spider-Man film. With these plus Black Panther, Guardians 2 and several other projects in the pipeline, it looks like the studio isn’t slowing down.

I’ll leave you with their newest intro for Marvel Studios.

Spider-Man: Homecoming images

When Captain America: Civil War hit the theatres, there were several new characters who entered the MCU and began their long life with the comic book studio. Both Black Panther and Spider-Man were spoke of highly. With no surprise, there were those who questioned what more could be done with a character who has had five films already and God forbid we get another origin story. Although I’m sure Tom Holland’s crying face wouldn’t be as awful and cringeworthy as Tobey Maguire’s.

Tobey-Maguire-Spider-Man-Crying_edited-1

YIKES!

Marvel aren’t stupid, they wouldn’t tread this ground once more. When we meet Peter Parker he has had his powers for six months and at the time was swinging around in a home-made costume. Now after his turn in Civil War he’s coming back with his own movie, with Marvel. It’s a bout time the web slinger returned, it’s such a fantastic sight, I’m so excited. Spider-Man is one of my all time favourite superheros and in Tom Holland, they’ve got someone who can bring the cocky nervousness of the character to life.

Check out these first images taken on set of Spider-Man: Homecoming. The film is due out next year.

Captain America. Civil War. The best images from trailer 2

We’ve been given something absolutely incredible, I didn’t even know it was coming until I saw the announcement the day before. A new Captain America Civil War trailer was headed our way and the excitement was just too much to handle! I sat there with bated breath, waiting for it to drop but it didn’t. I waited all morning, as long as I possible could without being late for work, but still nothing. My patience wasn’t rewarded until much later in the day when I received a text from an equally geek friend of mine (I have lots of these!) who exclaimed “Civil War trailer just got me a lil excited!” I squealed, I ran, I ran as soon as I could find a quiet spot to watch this whilst I should have been working (people can take cigarette breaks, I can do this.)

Well, it was certainly worth the wait; extra footage, but not giving away too much, a few more words of dialogue thrown in, proof that Black Panther’s armour is extremely tough and of course the reveal of Underoos himself, Spiderman who looks fantastic! This is what happens when the right studio has him on board. Well done to both Marvel and Sony for getting that deal sorted.

I just wanted to share a bunch of images from the trailer, basically my favourite screenshots that got me very excited indeed! Take a look below

1

Bucky in some sort of chamber at the start of the trailer, what the hell is he in??

4

The Raft, as it is known in the comics, is seen during the trailer. This is a superhero prison for those who do not stick to the Sokovia Accords. This was supposed to extend into the negative zone, however this is part of the Fantastic Four, who are currently owned by Fox. Not much we can do about that! Bloody Fox!

5

And this is inside the prison, with several cells.

6

Bucky (or what looks like his stunt double) being chased down by Black Panther

8

Tony Stark putting his wrist hand Iron Man gadget into use…

9

…it starts comes to life…

10

….and pretty much finishes looking like this.

11

Just in time as Bucky fires a gun straight at his face. Yikes!

12

Is Rhodes dead? (I doubt it!)

16

Black Panther’s armour taking a bullet, which makes perfect sense as it’s made of vibranium, the same material as Captain America’s shield.

18

Scarlett Witch attacking Vision

19

Vision feeling the effect of Scarlett Witch’s powers.

21

Hawkeye launching an arrow…

22

…with Antman on board. Something which has been taken from the comic books, it’s great to see them sticking with the original story in places.

23

Crossbones swinging at Captain America.

25

“I could do this all day!”

A super year for super heroes!

We will never forget the unfortunate and lacklustre comic book films that have come out in recent years including Green Hornet (2011), Green Lantern (2011) and the terrible Superman Returns (2006) but what some may forget is that the studios would never have made these without the aide of Spiderman and X-Men who released their first films 2000 and 2002. They were both huge hits at the box office and comic book fan united and wanted more. Who knew what they’d get some years later is the studios scraping the barrel for film. Even the reboot of Superman films was badly executed. It did to the Superman series what Batman & Robin did to the Batman collective.

But now we find ourselves in 2012, the year of three huge superhero movies, one of which is the concluding chapter in what has already been a brilliant trilogy. Another is a reboot which the fans are more excited about than the original. The final film has already become one of the greatest successes at the box office and This year sees three highly anticipated films released including The Avengers, The Amazing Spiderman and The Dark Knight Rises, with the latter arguably being the most popular release this year.

The Avengers

The Avengers has been in the making since Ironman of 2008, where Nick Fury makes an appearance after the credits and visits Tony Stark to tell him about the Avengers initiative. Since then, in The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2, Thor and Captain America, small hints and clues have been dropped using Nick Fury and the ever brilliant Agent Coulson to start the rumours of The Avengers. A film with more superheroes than you will ever see in one film, unless DC get their finger out and make The Justice League. It’s clear to see why this is a huge release for 2012.

Whilst enjoying The Avengers, please take a minute for poor Spidey  who is not one of The Avengers, despite the fact that they all come from comic super power Marvel. However don’t feel THAT bad for him, after just 5 years since Spiderman 3, he’s been given a reboot. This is no ordinary reboot however, this is one that the fans wanted, the one that gets more to the root of who Peter Parker really is and what happened to his parents. We will also see the character Gwen Stacey introduced, who is a refreshing change from Mary Jane. Andrew Garfield takes up the role of Peter Parker / Spiderman and looks as if he is more suited to this than Tobey Maguire, who I never felt fit the part in the way that he should have! I’m sure I can expect some backlash from that comment!

Now we come the The Dark Knight Rises. The legend that will end this year is the legend we’ve been waiting for 4 years to return. Four years after we saw Batman take the fall from Harvey Dents crimes, he returns. But what he returns to we will have to wait and see. From the three trailers, what we do know is that Bane is his new enemy and he’s causing havoc and devastation in Gotham. What has happened to Batman, we don’t know but chances are when it comes to both brains and brawn, The Dark Knight has finally met his match. This is the third and final Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale Batman flick that we will see. After breaking the the billion dollar barrier at the box office, The Dark Knight has set the bar incredibly high, but knowing what Nolan can do, chances are he’ll Rise above it!

Man of Steel

So a great year for some great some films, and there will be more to come. The Amazing Spiderman 2 has already been announced as as The Avengers 2 and 3. Without a doubt, this will be a super year. And for those of you worried about Superman, fret not dear friend! Take a look above, this is the first images from The Man of Steel, pencilled in for a release in 2013, with Christopher Nolan’s creative input as Executive Producer, working with Zack Snyder as Director, this should have you looking forward to another super year for superheroes.
