It’s been less than 2 months since the first trailer came out and it seems Nintendo is super keen on Super Mario now that a second trailer has been released. It’s not out until April people! Relax! Anyway, so much more to see and hear in this one, check out the second trailer for The Super Mario Bros. Movie below.
So much to unpack here! But starting with Mario getting his ass kicked by Donkey Kong us a pretty fun opening. There’s still not much of an explanation of Mario’s accent and choosing Chris Pratt to voice him but we did get a couple of recognisable nuggets. Lets-a-go and yahoo can be heard during the trailer, as well as the distinctive when a kart jumps. We even get to see Mario do some plumbing! The plumber that actually plumbs. Peach gets a new look as well as her voice as Anya Taylor Joy takes on the role. They seem to have done away with the damsel in distress in a very nice modern update.
Bowser is still wreaking havoc and plans on taking over the world but Peach has other plans as she’s putting together an army of adorable Toadstools to stop him. Mario on the other hand is pretty useless as we see him make his way through familiar platforms seen in the games and constantly being beaten. Badly. But then we see the Rainbow Road and it is glorious!
Joining Chris Pratt and Anya Taylor Joy are Jack Black, Charlie Day, Keegan-Michael Key, Seth Rogen and more. The film has been directed by Aaron Hovarth and Michael Jelenic with Matthew Fogel on writing duties. The film is out end of March / start of April depending on where you are.
